About Nessa

It’s a brave new world post Covid. We can now come out of our homes and put Zoom behind us and return to a class situation and mix with other like-minded friends.

I am re starting my Tuesday evening Yoga classes at Nicholas Hawksmoor school where I have been teaching since 2010. If you are happy to join me please text or email me to reserve your space.

You are in safe hands. I have been teaching yoga for over 20 years and qualified with FRYOG International School of Yoga. I lived on the east coast of America some ten years ago and practised yoga with some world renowned teachers from New York, California and Europe. I offer my own mix which is calm and soothing to the soul. Just what we all need in this busy world.

As we learn to live in this post pandemic world we should be respectful of others. Please do not attend one of my yoga evening classes if you have knowingly come into contact with anyone who has Covid either at home or in your workplace or socially. We can all be safe if everyone is respectful. Thank you.

What is hatha yoga?
Hatha Yoga aims to balance the mind and body with the exploration of steady slow-paced physical postures, breathing techniques and guided meditation. We will practice stretching and holding postures in order to concentrate and clear the mind.

Will I ever be able to achieve the postures?
With practice and gradual loosening of the muscles, most of the postures can be achieved in time. You must also have patience and listen to your own body. I encourage everyone to work at their own level – step by step and offer poses that can be adapted for everyone. (Pregnant ladies - I will guide you.) I offer regular group classes, (including teaching yoga to a well known Formula One team) holistic workshops and individual private lessons. I am very really pleased to offer a well balanced gentle class that is open to all. Please come along and join me. Memberships : FRYOG – Friends of Yoga Society

Yoga Sessions

Preparing For Your First Class
Yoga practice should be taken at your own pace and with respect to your own body, instinct and physical ability. Here are some general tips to help you feel at ease as you prepare for your first class:- Preparation for a Class : General Points
• Please wear comfortable clothing. There are no rules. Simply wear comfortable trousers such as jogging bottoms, a t-shirt and long sleeved top such as a fleece to keep warm during relaxation.
• Yoga is practiced in bare feet, but bring along socks to keep warm during relaxation.
• In the winter months please bring a blanket (or sleeping bag) for the relaxation at the end of class
• Try not to eat a heavy meal just before class. Attending an hour after a meal is ok. It’s important to keep energy levels up so please have a snack/ banana etc if you are attending straight from work and try to drink water before and after the class.
• Yoga is practiced on a non-slip mat. Don’t worry if you don’t have one as Vanessa has some to borrow.
• Pregnancy - Please do not attend a regular class during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. Breathing and relaxation practices are ideal during the first trimester. Expectant mothers over 16 weeks are very welcome to attend. Postures will be modified.
• What about my fitness and flexibility?. Postures will be modified to suit all abilities unless you are unfit to practice through injury or ailment. Remember the less flexible you are the more you benefit!

Why is yoga good for you?
Yoga combines mind, energy and body. It gives you true fitness and brings inner-strength, clarity and calm.

Testimonials

"I want to thank you for all the wonderful yoga classes which I enjoyed so much and really benefited from. As I mentioned to you a while back yours was the only yoga class that I’ve done with a mind and spiritual dimension. Before I took your class I used to think I’m sure there’s more to yoga than this. I’m also very pleased to be introduced to the gentle sequences which I hadn’t come across before.
You are a hard act to follow but I will look out what other classes I can do in the Autumn."
Isabel of London

"Vanessa, Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the yoga last night and I had the best night’s sleep I've had in weeks, thank you!"
Vickie of Towcester

"I loved the 'bird poses' in the class, by the way, I enjoy stretches and stretching bits I didn't know about!"
Caroline of Lillingstone Lovell, Bucks

"I would highly recommend Vanessa's yoga classes as it’s a very relaxed atmosphere and was made to feel very welcome. Having never tried yoga before I was unsure what to expect but thoroughly enjoy it with the added bonus of feeling a lot less achy.. It's amazing what a few stretches can achieve."
Nicki of Towcester

"Thanks for another great yoga session. I really enjoyed the stretches but really struggle with sitting cross legged and kneeling. My bones are just not very happy doing this ! Great that Judy and I can sympathise together. Once again you have pulled it out the bag with some interesting and different movements
But also slept really well, did not even wake up turning over ! Consequently I woke up really refreshed. Thank you."
